London 4 Hour Winston Churchill Private Tour

Richard is the BEST! He is so well versed in all things Churchill. We learned sooo much. And not just the war info but also things like here is the place he bought all his cigars and getting to go into this fantastic smoke shop with a little museum of Churchill ledgers etc. So many extras he adds to give you a complete picture. And also helpful tips on where to stand to see the changing of the guards without the big crowds. Both my husband and I felt like we were with a friend showing us around for 4 hours. Then we spent even more time on our own in the Churchill War Rooms which he includes the ticket price in what you pay for your tour. Heartily recommend Richard and his tour. So knowledgeable and so reliable and you have a great time with him!

This tour is informative and fun. You learn virtually everything about Churchill’s life and history but do it while walking to his favorite spots in and about Mayfair. Then, you go to the war room and museum and use what you learned to fully understand the man and his life in the context of his service to England. Richard is nice and easy going and really entertaining.

Superb day! This is a must do experience when in London. Get this private experience. It was a very thorough story telling sort of day. Winston Churchill would have been proud of what the tour says about him. Amusing and delightful experience.

Richard’s private tour was wonderful. He is friendly, interesting and extremely informed on Winston’s life. Not only did we see many places where WC lived throughout his life, Richard provided funny tidbits about him. He brought us to the War Rooms and made sure we got admitted quickly and began our own visit of the War Rooms. It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

The tour guide, Richard , was very knowledgeable and talked enthusiastically about Churchill .He took us to various houses Churchill had lived in and visited during his life , and also shops patronised by him; his taylor,hat maker & cigar supplier ; giving us lots of details that aren’t the usual things you read about. My history buff husband loved it ; the visit to the War Rooms afterwards was fascinating .I thoroughly recommend both the tour and War Rooms I enjoyed them and I’m not “into” history !

Richard, as a guide, was perfect for the lead in acquainting me with Central London's geographic, cultural/social and political importance just prior to and during the life of Winston Churchill. While he kept me moving from location to location, he did not go so fast that I was unable to take a key photo or ask a question from time to time, greatly augmenting my knowledge via his responses. While exhibiting a truly unapologetic British accent, his speech cadence, volume and tonal qualities made his stories easy on the ear - and his vocabulary is wonderful! Another benefit of being led by Richard, is that he was so self-confident in his deep knowledge of the subject matter that he demonstrated complete composure even if I turned on my phone's video from time to time, as I was intent on preserving some of my lessons on the different eras of Churchill's life. Because of this, I will be able to revisit his teaching on the very interesting situations of Churchill's life, while back in the States. Finally, if you are only marginally interested in the life of such a historic figure, Richard's Tour is a blessing for tourists to connect with, as he is a professional in all that he does, guiding you through quaint streets of Mayfair, St. James Place, etc., (even suggesting an occasional restroom stop from time to time). Walking distance on this tour is significant, but his pace is not too fast. In all ways, I was blessed to have connected to Britain's (the world's) important past through Richard. Spend the money and learn all that you can in a period that is reasonable to spend on this tour.

Richard, our tour guide was very cordial and quite informative. He was very knowledgeable and could tell wonderful stories that could take your imagination back in time. It was a great experience getting to know the Great British Statesman on a greater level. Would highly recommend!

We had a wonderful time with Mark on our tour of Winston's Churchill and the War Rooms. We learned a lot, and got to see some really neat history. Mark was very knowledgeable, and personable. It felt like he personalized the tour for us, and made us feel very welcome. He made details about Churchill come to life. Would highly recommend the tour, it was great!

Richard was on-time, friendly, comprehensive, and interesting. He knew his history and was up-to-date on the latest insights into Churchill's life. Prepare for a few hours, and then enjoy the War Rooms with greater appreciation of the time period and the person. I highly recommend Richard for your tours and London experiences.

Richard was a fantastic storyteller and gave us a lot of information that we didn't know about Winston Churchill and a smattering of others along the way. As he greets you, he asks what you are looking to learn and where you are from, and he caters his narrative to your needs/wants. He got us into the War Rooms easily and because he gave us so much information during the walk, we didn't get overwhelmed taking in all the information at the War Rooms. I highly recommend this private experience with him and like others have mentioned, he makes you feel as if you are walking and talking with a friend, rather than just a tour guide.

The tour guide, Richard, was fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable and excellent delivery. We really enjoyed the walking tour and learned so much more than we expected. We didn’t realize how much more to Churchill there was that we were not aware of and Richard made that possible. The bunker tour was very good as well. All around excellent tour

It was a trip with family, to treat my husband on his 50th birthday. He is a history buff! All of us including my teenage boys thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This was the "best tour ever" in their words. Richard has a very pleasant manner and is very well informed. Highly recommend this tour.

Richard was very knowledgable of all facts pertaining to Churchill. In my interpretation of the tour - I thought we were going to have Richard along side while inside the War Rooms. If you are looking for that experience, you may need to research other options. Richard was very enjoyable and some other fun tips that we learned along the way were pretty cool.

This is an amazing view into the not so distant past. If you are an aficionado of WW II history, do allow yourself time to truly delve into the Churchill history even after you’ve viewed the war rooms. I didn’t allow myself enough time for this visit; I would reserve at least two hours even if you’re not a history buff.

Our trip was a mother-daughter trip and Richard was fabulous! He was on time-and on point! His knowledge and love of the subject was amazing but he was also entertaining and a great listener. He heard what our interests were on Churchill and customized the tour to us. I would highly recommend this tour-and Richard was great!

Richard was an excellent guide, showing us all of the Mayfair homes where Churchill lived, recounting Churchill's childhood, and climb to prominence, which I recalled from reading the Andrew Roberts biography of Churchill. He pointed out Churchill's personal items in the War Rooms to be sure to spot, and it was fun to find them--the pocket watch, the pistol. Thoroughly enjoyable tour, Richard; we loved it! Can't wait to see your home town of Cowes!
